Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited in the campus. The Supreme Court defines ragging as:

• Any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written.
• Any act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which causes annoyance, hardship or psychological harm to a fresher or a junior student.
• Asking a fresher to do any act or perform something which such student will not do in the ordinary course.
• Any act that generates a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique of psyche of a fresher. FIR will be lodged against anybody found indulging in ragging. The punishment includes
• Fine with Public Apology
• Suspension from Classes or Institution
• Expulsion from Hostel and Mess
• Withholding Scholarships or other benefits
• Banning from Campus Recruitments
• Withholding Results or Certificates
• Rustication from the Institute All students is, therefore, warned that the Institutions will not tolerate any sort of ragging.

Ragging is any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student will not do in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique of psyche of a fresher or a junior student. The cause of indulging in ragging is deriving a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by the seniors over their juniors or freshers. If anyone is found indulging in ragging he/she will be punished appropriately. The punishment may include expulsion from institution .

Prevention of Ragging in Technical Institutions

The Supreme Court of India in Writ Petition No. (C) 656/1998 directed that the ragging in educational institutions should be prevented and appropriate measures should be taken by AICTE for prevention of ragging in technical educational institutions.

Accordingly, the Council has published a circular in its website www.aicte.ernet.in directing the technical institutions to ensure that the ragging does not take place in their campuses in any form and that if such cases are reported to the Council, necessary action including withdrawal of approval shall be taken.

The institutions imparting technical education are advised to take necessary measures for prevention of ragging in any form in their campuses.
Students, their parents and the general public are advised to report to the Council, instances of ragging in any form in institutions imparting technical education for taking appropriate action by the Council.
Institutions are further advised to insert a footnote that "Ragging is prohibited as per the decision of the Supreme Court of India in Writ Petition No. (C) 656/1998" in all their advertisements.
