Dr. Mamta Rani (MCA, Ph.D. - Computer Science), Head, Department of Computer Applications has teaching experience of more than 10 years. She has presented 11 research papers, published in UK, Australia, Saudi Arab and India. She has received first prize for best paper presentation in a national conference. She has presented research papers in a number of international and national journals and presently guiding 3 research scholars.
As its name implies, this department emphasizes deployment of computer technology in producing computer applications. The department offers Masters in Computer Applications and Doctoral Programmes.
Doctoral programmes are centered around computer graphics and experimental approaches to the design of fractals. Applications have been developed for the design of patterns in carpet and textile industry. Applications have also been developed in discrete dynamical systems. Currently the department is investigating Fractal Theory in improving performance of Fractal Antennas and for noise mitigation in communication systems.
The department also works in Computer Networking and Wireless Communication with the objective to improve the Quality of Service (QoS) by reducing congestion in high-speed communication. Currently work is in progress in developing new techniques for fast communication after a disaster has occurred.
The department has produced five research papers in the last two years: three in international journals and two in national journals.
To keep itself abreast of latest developments in computer applications, the department makes extensive efforts to develop partnerships with industry. We have partnered with IBM to offer an intensive training programme for teachers on 'IT Infrastructure Management' and DB2. We also have collaboration with Infosys undertheir Infosys Connect Program to offer intensive training for our students.
The Teaching Learning Process at the MCA level uses the latest electronic teaching aids and is characterized by a tight coupling between lectures, tutorial and laboratory work. The former contributes to interactive classroom learning where the student is able to discuss with the teacher and peer students. The latter enables planned learning and optimization of student-teacher time to maximize learning.
The objective of SCEA is to provide the coordination among various departments, working on Computer Technology. It is a platform, where the thoughts are shared to pave out the challenges imposed by industry and society. Besides imparting education to young aspirants, SCEA also focuses on new paradigms in teaching learning methods, faculty development of its sibling organizations, resource optimization, conducting conferences, seminar, workshops and lectures from industry. SCEA performs special industry related courses and trainings, which are benefited to all three departments. SCEA enjoys support of multinational companies and their latest technologies. INFOSYS, ORACLE, IBM, iCarnegie are some of them. Many research projects are at floor coordinated at inter-department level.
RESEARCH
To impart good quality undergraduate engineering education, the department focuses on development of practical and application oriented minds. It is our attempt to make students learn by doing rather than by rote learning of topics and subjects.
Every year, many students join US Universities for imparting further studies. We, at department are very much particular in choosing best destinations for student's summer and industrial training. Many students have gone overseas to conduct their industrial training.
DEVELOPMENT
SCEA believes in counseling the students beyond the classes. Senior faculty members act as mentors to the students. Every year, many students of SCEA join US Universities for imparting further higher studies. SCEA is committed to the students in choosing best destinations for student's summer and industrial training in India and abroad. SCEA consists of advance labs and Computer Centres (CC) to meet the computing needs of whole GCET as well as Hostels. The special focus of the SCEA is on the use of information technology on education and research, and on the study of how the increased availability of information in all spheres of enquiry, be it biological/geological/economic information, etc. can be most effectively utilized in an academic context.
